The findings of the research project "The Social Aspects of Ageing in Cyprus" were announced on Friday, October 2, during an event organised at the UNESCO amphitheater, University of Nicosia. The date was specifically chosen because the 1st of October is declared as the International Day for the Elderly.

It was attended by officials from the End Users who are the Social Welfare Services, the Union of Cyprus Municipalities, the Cyprus Family Planning Association, the Cyprus Federation of Welfare Councils for the Elderly and many elderly people.
Dr Constantinos Phellas, Director of RUBSI, Scientific Coordinator of the project welcomed the guests and referred to the general findings. He pointed out that the elderly are the group who has worked for the society the benefits of which we can today enjoy. They should be treated with respect and we should do everything in our power to improve their quality of life and their standard of living.

She welcomed the need for research that demonstrates the needs of the elderly and referred to the governments efforts in improving the living conditions and the care of the elderly.
